Reconstruction- Rebuilding something that has been destroyed.
Impeach- Charge of misconduct
13th amendment- The amendment that abolished slavery in the U.S
14th amendment- Not allowing states to not give anyone the right of citizenship
15th amendment- African- American MEN are allowed to vote

Ex- Confederate Soldier-
Facts: 1.) Most of them had family's that were torn apart due to the war. 2.) Many came home with diseases due to the horrible conditions of the war. 3.) Some soldiers from the confederacy would join extremist anti-slave groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. Quote- " I come home from war to a broken up family my wife and kids are leaving me because they believed I should have fought with the Union. Those darn carpetbaggers are going to ruin my way of life. This awful war has brought forth nothing good." Freedmen-
1.) Most joined the Bureau of Freed men after the civil war so that they could find work. 2.) Some would keep working on plantations in the South for very low wages. 3.) despite the sudden changes in blacks being free now slaves still got treated like slaves with the horrible work labor conditions. Quote- " I have fled to the Northern side for protection my master wanted to keep me at his plantation. I finally got free one night and I went to the Bureau of Freed men so I can find some work and be safe." |
Carpetbagger-
Facts: 1.) Most of the time they would be around scalawags. 2.) They would make many peoples lives miserable due to the vast amount of power they had from their careers. 3.) Often they would buy plantations and sell them to newly freed blacks for jobs. Quote- " Those scalawags I've just crossed over to the Southern side to buy more land for those freedmen to come crawling to me for money and a job, I finally have power during this awful Reconstruction period." Woman-
Facts: 1.) Many woman still had no rights during the Civil War. 2.) Very few had jobs due to gender segregation and almost all of them were treated poorly. 3.) Some women would actually take a big role in the Civil War such as nurses or spies. Quote- "While my husband is still fighting out in the War Im at home with the kids. I have no job no source of income because of women's rights. I am going to a meeting this Saturday to plan a women's rights movement after the war is finally over. |
